The casting department is on a constant worldwide search for talented musicians to play guitar, bass, zither, Chapman stick and percussion in the Blue Man Group band. Excellent musicianship, an open mind, a willingness to relocate and the ability to rock are necessary. We’re searching for those who handle their given instrument with skill and humility. A drummer in the Blue Man band must be able to slam the drums with the tribal intensity of a Kalihari warrior calling forth the ancient spirits of slain buffalos. A guitarist must be adept, delicate, yet fierce and ferocious. In short, the band is the musical extension of the Blue Man character; hypnotic, psychotic, calculating, spontaneous, childlike and shamanic. Hear some words from the men behind the Blue Man music.
Todd Perlmutter | Jeff Quay | Byron Estep

Todd Perlmutter
Creative Development Music Director

“If you do the right thing and put your mind, body and soul into the music, then it really doesn’t matter what bands you listened to as a kid or how technically skilled a musician you are.”

Jeff Quay
Associate Music Director, Chicago

“My role as a drummer and director dictates that I direct by example, be a good teacher by being a good student. I want to see if they have what it takes, a very strong sense of conviction and enough confidence to be valiant and giving.”

Byron Estep
Associate Music Director

“You need to have a good ear; pick things up quickly by ear. We’re not necessarily looking for people who can read music. And you have to have a really good sense of time. Good ear, good sense of time and an adept facility with your instrument – those are the main ingredients for being a successful Blue Man musician.”
