Our Las Vegas production is on a search to find someone to join our dynamic, creative, high-energy workplace as Head of Carpentry & Props. This position requires extensive knowledge of theatrical carpentry and properties, including outstanding troubleshooting skills with a mind for research and development. This position is responsible for leading the safe and consistent operation of all scenic and prop elements within the theater.
The Head of Carpentry & Props manages the Las Vegas Carpentry and Props Departments and their daily operations. S/he will hire and train Carpentry & Props personnel, manage the department schedules, oversee department maintenance projects and inventory, conduct employee evaluations, and create and manage the Carpentry & Props budget and other administrative needs in conjunction with the Production Manager. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, possess superb verbal and written communication ability, and forge positive and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners. S/he will be professional, fun, and a pro-active problem solver who is able to inspire staff, foster employee development, and build successful teams, all while multi-tasking within a busy work environment.
Ideal candidates will have at least 4 years of experience in live production within the entertainment industry. This experience should include leading a team to create a positive, energetic, professional work environment; knowledge in plastics, fiberglass, foams, adhesives, painting techniques, coatings, basic electric skills, rigging, pneumatic systems, traditional woodworking skills, metal working/welding skills for steel and aluminum, and experience managing prop consumables for a live theatrical production. Experience with theatrical automation systems and computer drafting, particularly AutoCAD, is highly preferred. Ability to qualify for forklift certification and operate machinery is required.
This is a full-time, salaried position with a full benefits package, typically scheduled as a five-day work week although scheduling may require flexibility. This position works varying days and hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. This role reports to the Production Manager, Blue Man Vegas.
